Hands Free Breast Pump

Breastfeeding is an important and emotional subject. Whether you choose to breastfeed is a personal choice! At the end of the day you should make the decision that’s best for you and your little one. So, you’ll find no judgement here. Fed is best! Rather, in today’s post I’ll share a review of my favorite hands free breast pump, the Momcozy S12 Pro. Pumping can be isolating and feel restrictive. But, it doesn’t have to. If your goal is to continuously feed your baby breastmilk, know that it is possible with the help of breast pumps.

Hands free breast pumps can also make breastfeeding even more convenient since you can still pump milk while being able to use your hands to do other things, like working, cleaning, and cooking – us moms are always on the go! I’m sharing my thoughts on hands free breast pumps and whether they are worth it or not, as well as some of my fav nursing-friendly tops like this one. I also have discount codes for Momcozy!

Momcozy S12 Pro review

Best Hands Free Breast Pump : Momcozy S12 Pro

Like anything, there are pros and cons to a wireless breast pump. Below is a full review of the Momcozy S12 Pro, the best hands free breast pump.

Hands Free Convenience

The first obvious benefit of a portable breast pump is how convenient it is. I’ve pumped for just under 5 months. Real quick – I should point out that the Momcozy isn’t intended to be a full-time pump. But, when Everett started daycare I’d breastfeed him in the morning and evening. So, I’d pump 3 times during the day once I went back to work. The motors have held up well and are so quiet I can pump during meetings without anyone noticing!

Affordability

There are a handful of hands free breast pumps on the market, but the Momcozy, Willow and Elvie are arguably the most popular. But, a HUGE differentiator though are the prices. The Willow pumps range between $349 to $549. Elvie Pump is $549 and the Elvie Stride model is $269. The new Momcozy S12 Pro costs just $139. Based on price alone, I purchased the S12 Pro during a Black Friday special and never looked back.

Double-sealed Flange Design

Fit is everything when it comes to your breast pump because it helps maximize milk output. The S12 Pro has a double-sealed flange design that lets you get a snug fit and minimize any leaking. That phrase “don’t cry over spilled milk” clearly wasn’t talking about breast milk! The pump comes with a 24mm flange, but other sizes are available for sale.

3 Pumping Modes and 9 Levels

Just like fit is important, so is the variance in suction strength! The S12 Pro has 3 modes – stimulation (what I used for the first 2-3 minutes), expression, and mixed (what I used for the remained of my pumping session). Plus, each of the modes have 9 levels, giving you a ton of control over how strong the pull is on your nipple. You can also tailor it depending on what you need on each side. I’ll just say… this baby is strong! I never went beyond level 3 or 4!

Quick Charge and Long Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, the S12 Pro lasts about 5-6 sessions (it says about 140 minutes). So, you don’t have to constantly recharge it. I just put mine on the charger before bed at night. But, it only needs about an hour and a half actually. The power source easily snaps in at the top of the collection cup.

Easy Wearability

One small knock on the S12 Pro is the size of the pump. I do wish it was slimmer. But, I also have a bigger chest. That aside, when it comes time to pump I simply slide them in my nursing bra and use the adjustable bra buckles to hold them in place. You can work, clean the house, do the laundry – whatever you need.

Large LED Screen

When Everett started sleeping in longer stretches, I’d wake up in the middle of the night desperately needing to pump. Luckily, my milk production was pretty high (especially at night). So, I’d feed him on one side and pump on the other. The large LED screen came in handy so I could change the settings as needed without needing to turn on any bright lights.

How To Use Hands Free Breast Pump

Putting on your electric breast pump

When it’s time to pump, I find it’s best to lean forward to best situate your breast in the silicone flange. Then, start the pump motor on the stimulation mode to simulate the suckling motion of your baby. Once you see expressed milk in the cup, turn the mode to expression or mixed and pump for up to 30 minutes (when it will automatically turn off).

Adjust your Nipple in the Flange

Inevitably, you’ll need to adjust your nipple in the flange from time to time. PRO TIP – if you’re in any pain, then your nipple isn’t correctly situated in the flange or your suction is too high. Pumping should not be painful (at least, not after the first few weeks).

How to Clean the Momcozy S12 Pro

Sometimes the last thing you want to do after a pumping session is clean your pump. But, I recommend you clean it immediately. If you can’t, then at least rinse it out. But, it’s so much easier to clean it after each use. Then, it’s ready for your next pumping session and the milk doesn’t coagulate on it either. You can use regular dish soap to clean your pumps. But, I do recommend getting a separate sponge or brush you can use to clean it with so it isn’t the same one you use for your dishes.

How Does a Hands Free Breast Pump Work

Using a hands free breast pump is easy. There are five main parts on the pump – the motor, the cup, the flange, the diaphragm, and the valve. Once it’s put together, you simply slip your nipple into the flange, suction it to your skin and start the pump. The Momcozy has a timer which is so nice, so you know exactly how long you’ve been pumping for in each session.

An important part of the pumping process is a good nursing bra. I shared a review of what I consider the 5 best nursing bras in this post, including this hands free pumping bra from MomCozy.

You may also need breast milk storage bags if you’re planning to freeze any milk. I tried 3-4 different brands and by far the best are the Dr Browns bags. They have a double seal so you can be sure the milk won’t spill or leak. And, they have slightly more study plastic which makes it so easy to pour into a bottle (others are more flimsy and you’ll spill milk).

Are Hands Free Breast Pumps Worth It?

I can say definitively that hands free breast pumps are worth it! When you’re using a pump that plugs in, you can feel trapped and lonely. Using an electric pump lets you maximize the time you have between naps when baby is little, helps you get little things done around the house and lets you collect and store (or freeze) milk to build up a backstock. There are far more expensive hands free breast pumps you can use versus Momcozy. It’s a great price for the amazing quality and has a ton of nice features.
