Sing Hat Company Customized Beaver Pelt Hats

When you approach Sing Hat Company from the outside, it’s got that rustic vibe that screams of mountain life. And, it gets even better once you’re inside. The front of the store is actually a shared space with another vendor who sells old cowboy boots and antlers. I dare you to walk out without one or the other!

When you continue toward the back, you reach Christy’s shop. The full wall of hats welcomes you, sharing all the styles that are available to pick from. Christy is an absolute doll – you’ll feel like immediate friends! So, what happens then? You get to work.

The Custom Hat Process at Sing Hat Company

Selecting Your Hat Shape

So, it starts with selecting the shape. What style works best for your head? You probably won’t know until you try a bunch on. I probably wore 6 different hats until I found THE ONE. You’ll also need to decide the depth of the brim. I didn’t want a huge hat, so I kept mine on the shallow side.

Picking Your Pelt Quality

Then, the have to pick the type of beaver pelt quality. They use beaver because of its ability to hold it’s shape and wear well over time. I don’t honestly recall all the options. But, I know there are a few and it’s mostly based on price.

I went with the mid-range option which was several hundred dollars (I’ll have to try to find my receipt). How do you pick? Well, I don’t see myself getting a ton of custom hats. So, I wanted something that was a little better quality to commemorate the trip. I should also mention that certain pelts come in certain colors. So, that may influence your decision as well.

Getting Custom – Measuring your Head

With those two major parts of the process done, Christy measures your head. I can’t recall my size. But, I do remember that Camille and I have the exact same size head! HA!

Lastly, you pick your trimmings which are the ribbons or little extras you’ll add, like a feather. For my hat, I asked for two different color ribbons.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the result. The hat fits my head perfectly (that’s the point, right!?) and is a classic piece I’ll have forever. Take my word for it – visit Sing Hat Company if you’re in the Jackson Hole area.
