Maternity Smock Dresses

Smock dresses have been a fashion staple since the 1920s. They’re known for their ruched fabric that can flatter all body types. Some have sweet ruffled details, while others are only smocked at the top and more loose and comfortable at the bottom. But, overall the style is incredibly versatile, and easy to style. So, they’re perfect for maternity wear because they of their forgiving and relaxed silhouette. I’ve worn so many maternity smock dresses during my second and third trimester! Today’s post is dedicated to a round up of some of my favorites (also love this one) and I’m including tips on how to style them to effortlessly show off your baby bump.

7 Maternity Smock Dresses

Perhaps one of the most daunting and scary moments of pregnancy is when you can no longer fit into your shorts or button your jeans. Okay, so that’s an exaggeration. But, at least for me, that’s when it “got real”. I’ve basically lived in smock dresses the last four months of my pregnancy journey – some of which will be great for post-partum too. I’m sharing my favorite styles below.

Smocked Fitted Maternity Dress

I’m a HUGE fan of Pink Blush Maternity. Their dresses are flattering and affordable (especially when they have sales). This fitted smocked style is one that they always have in stock in multiple colors and prints (love the floral). When I tell you it’s stretchy, it almost feels like an understatement! You can adjust the straps so it sits nicely on your chest and it gives you nice shape! Big win when you’re preggo.

3/4 Sleeve Smocked Flannel Maternity Dress

Another place you can find really cute maternity smock dresses is at Target. I love this flannel style by the Ingrid & Isabel line that they carry! It’s perfect for fall with the brown plaid print. Plus the sleeve length is fun with its puff sleeves too.

Hill House Louisa Nap Dress

One dress I desperately wish I’d purchased during pregnancy is this Louisa Nap Dress by Hill House. People rave about it when they’re not pregnant. But, it comes in so many fun prints (more than a dozen) and will grow with you as your bump changes. The ruffle hem and midi length make it really feminine and sizes range from XXS to XXL.

Off-shoulder Bodycon Midi Smocked Maternity Dress

You can always head to Amazon when you need pretty smocked maternity dresses at great prices! This off-shoulder style would be really pretty for your baby shower or if you’re taking maternity photos. It only comes in 1 color, but it’s a neutral that works for everyone!

Square Neck Puff Sleeve Maternity Maxi Dress

While I tend to favor maternity midi dresses over minis or maxis, this smocked maxi dress caught my eye! It comes in 11 different colors and gives off a sexy vibe with it’s slit detail. At $37.99, it’s a steal!

Floral Smocked Tiered Maternity Dress

Another find from Pink Blush Maternity, this floral dress is super lightweight and the smocked bodice looks great no matter what stage of pregnancy you’re at. It comes in two colorways and does run a bit small. Size up one size! I love this as an option for a wedding guest dress while you’re pregnant and then you can layer it come fall with a sweater.

Maternity Long Sleeved Tiered Smock Mini Dress

At just over $50, this long sleeved tiered smock mini dress will be a classic in your closet while you’re pregnant. It’s from ASOS Maternity, which carries a good amount of maternity dress options overall. But, I love that this has long sleeves and a shorter length. It’s dressy enough for dinners when the seasons change but still flirty for date night as your body is changing.

How To Style Smock Dresses

So, you’ve found some maternity smock dresses you love and now you need to know how to style them! Depending on the season, there are a ton of options.

Smock Dress Outfits for Spring

Depending on where you live, Spring can still be colder and you may need layers. I would wear this dress and drape a faux leather jacket over my shoulders (or top it with a sweater). Then, embrace the sun and slip on some braided sandals and pair it with a braided bag.

Smock Dresses for Summer

For summer, I love this maxi dress with a slit up the side to keep you cool. My denim jacket is always a summer staple and you can either drape it or tie it around your waist. Then, accessorize with a basket bag and straw hat.

Smock Dresses for Fall

When Fall comes around I’m all about moody florals and darker colors. This tiered smocked dress is so easy to throw on. You can grab your favorite leather jacket and ankle booties to complete the look. Then, top it off with a fedora for a perfect fall bump style look.

Smock Dresses for Winter

Winter is a great time for maternity style because later in your pregnancy you’ll start to get very hot! You can still wear your maternity smock dresses (mini, midi or maxi) and throw on stockings or leggings underneath. Then, be sure to grab a warm wool coat or something with faux fur like this one. You may need to size up in your boots depending on if you’re swelling at all. I’m obsessed with this pair! If you’re headed out to dinner or a formal event, then grab a fancy clutch like this one.

Smock Dress Wedding Style

Have a friend that’s getting married? It can be so much fun to dress the bump for that special occasion. I love a feminine look with a fitted smocked dress like this one. You can top it with a tweed blazer or a fur coat and some chunky gold jewelry.

Another option is this Hill House dress paired with a longer coat and some sparkly heels!

You may be getting used to your bump, but there are endless outfit options as it grows! Hopefully these outfits inspire you to stock up on a few maternity smock dresses that you can wear through the seasons or for various occasions.
