Guest Bathroom Remodel Inspiration

When we moved into our house over four years ago we were incredibly lucky it was mostly move-in ready. The kitchen had been redone. The bedroom had great bones (see how we glammed it up here). There was a mishap where we ended up redoing our laundry room. But, the spaces we always planned to update were the bathrooms. Now that our first project is underway, I’m sharing a look at our guest bathroom remodel inspiration in today’s post!

Guest Bathroom Remodel Inspiration

Our current guest bath is a confusing mix of styles – both modern and contemporary (see pics below). There’s a somewhat updated shower and a mix of materials and colors at the vanity and sink. With a new baby arriving in November and lots of guests coming to visit before then, we figure now is the time to make some big changes. We’ll basically be going down to the studs for this guest bath reno. The only thing that will remain?

The toilet… because we changed that out recently. The main design style for the guest bathroom remodel inspiration is french country glam with a mix of warm neutrals in the grey wood vanity, gold details for all the hardware and a touch of glam with some Kelly Wearstler sconces. We also want it to be fun! So, this patterned cement tile (also love this one) will be a focal point of the room.

How to Save and Where to Splurge

Since we’re planning to be in this home for years to come, we’re splurging on a few items and then saving in some other areas. For example, to save some money Matt is going to do the demo himself. We’ll use a plumber for when we move some of the pipes for the vanity sinks and to adjust the shower connections.

Then, we’ll have a contractor or professional tiler come in to lay the new tile. Lastly, we’re getting rid of the knockdown texture on our walls. So, we’ll have a pro do the drywall also. Once that work is done, we’ll save some dollars by having Matt put in the new light fixtures and handling the installation of the hardware for the vanity and shower.

What We’re Planning: Bathroom Reno Updates

Bathroom Lighting and Details

Aside from the cement tile, we’re also splurging on these Kelly Wearstler sconces. They’ve been on my wishlist for years! So, we’ll have three of them above the vanity, separated by simple gold rectangle mirrors.

Bathroom Vanity Makeover

We purchased our new double vanity from Restoration Hardware. But, this one is nearly identical and half the price. The main difference is that the bottom of the french contemporary vanity from RH is open at the bottom.

All of the hardware for the sink and shower is tentative right now. I have a soft spot for the Kohler Purist collection. But, it’s expensive! So, we will see where we land. Also, the shower door is TBD. It’s a detail I completely overlooked!

Other Bathroom Details

Ideally we would update the shower with a zellige tile. But, it’s really thick (almost 3/4 of an inch) and would make the space smaller. So, instead we’ll find a glazed ceramic tile with the same look and use a herringbone pattern for the shower floor and walls.

Then, we’ll keep the same floor rugs we have currently from Frontgate. They’re still in great condition. We still need to look for a towel bar or hooks. It’s the little details that can bring a bathroom makeover together at the end.

I’m excited to see how it all comes together! With supply chain issues, lead times on everything you order are longer than normal. Be sure to take that into account as you plan.

As the demo starts and items arrive I’ll be sharing the updates on Instagram. So, be sure to follow along! If you have any questions on what we’ve selected, leave a comment below!
