June Beauty Essentials: 7 Picks for Summer Glowing Skin

The past few months have been unprecedented, from the increase in screen time while we’re at home to changing daily routines to include less makeup. One thing I never expected? The best skin I’ve ever had! Scroll down for all the beauty essentials I tried in June!

To be clear, I’m still a makeup junkie. I love playing with makeup and trying new products. But, I guess in all the busyness of my older schedule I didn’t realize how infrequently I give my skin a break. Wearing less makeup has allowed my skin to BREATHE (see my no makeup makeup look)! And, I honestly think my skincare products are working BETTER because they’re not having to break through all the clogged pores I possibly once had. In today’s post I’m sharing 7 beauty essentials from June, like the Murad Revitalixir Recovery Serum and the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter (I use shade 3, light/medium).

June Beauty Essentials – Everything I Used

Clearly I’m a bit behind on this post since it’s now August. But, for perspective, I typically like to share product reviews after I’ve completely finished the item. Sometimes I might share first impressions. But, the majority of the time I’ll wait until I’ve used the last drop to give you my opinion! Anyways, hopefully you had a chance to check out my last post from April.

As per usual, some of June’s items are things I’ve used for a while and may be a recent repurchase. Or, it’s also possible I rediscovered them while I was doing some quarantine organizing!

Revitalixir Recovery Serum

June Skincare Favorites

It was back in October 2018 that I first started using Murad’s Revitalixir Recovery Serum and I still absolutely love it. This is a top 5 serum for me (possibly top 3… I’ll do a top 5 post soon), which is why it’s one of my beauty essentials for the month. I only use serum in the morning, which is when I find my face needs the most hydration. This serum is sheer, lightweight and actually targets dark under-eye circles and eye puffiness. You truly only need one pump of this stuff. So, it lasts foreverrrr. Only downside? I don’t believe it’s a completely clean product.

Price: $89, but worth every penny.

Next up is the Cleen Beauty Acai Face Scrub. Fact: I don’t exfoliate my face very often. Why? In the past my dermatologist advised me against using anything abrasive on my skin. But, I got a PR package from this affordable beauty brand and tried the cleanser. Then, I gave this face scrub a whirl. And, I have to say it’s one of the more gentle scrubs I’ve used. I love the smell and it doesn’t leave my skin red at all. I reach for it probably once a week and find that’s all I need. It’s effective and clean.

Price: At $7 this is a steal.

Unfortunately, the last item didn’t really work for me. I’m a HUGE fan of Drunk Elephant, but the Slaai Makeup-Melting Butter Cleanser left me wanting more. After a few weeks of using it, I put it back on the shelf. Then, after using it again til the last drop – this cleaning balm simply fell short for me. Unlike others that really take my makeup off well, this one just did not. Other reviewers seemed to share my sentiment. That said, I love the brand!

Price: $34 – too much for me based on my results.

June Makeup Favorites

Okay, so now I’m onto my June beauty essentials for makeup. No surprise here… they’re all Charlotte Tilbury. I’m quite the fan! Again, my only gripe is that it’s not all clean in terms of ingredients. But, they’re all cruelty free, some are vegan and many do not have parabens. Let me break down the three items I ran out of in June.

Hollywood Flawless Filter

although we’re no longer under a shelter-in-place, I’m still working from home. So, most days I’m not using foundation. Instead, I use the Flawless Filter in shade 3, with a little bit of bronzer and blush. Given the choice of a single product to take with me on an island – this is it. IT’S SERIOUSLY THAT GOOD! This product gives you a perfect glow.

Price: $44 and you NEED it (I rarely say that).

Wonderglow Face Primer

So, it’s clear I love all things Charlotte Tilbury. That said, I like this product. But, if given the choice between this and the Flawless Filter there’s no question. Also, primer’s are challenging for me in general. If you have one you love, please share details in the comments below and I’ll try it out. I just can’t say I’ve found “the one”. The glow in this is more subtle if you’re not into an overly dewy look. It’s won a bunch of beauty awards. So, clearly I’m the minority with my luke warm opinion.

Price: $55 for the bigger size – also why I prefer Flawless Filter

Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer

This is one of the products I rediscovered in my beauty cabinet! I remember not loving when I first purchased. But, I actually think I was using wayyyy too much. A little bit goes a long way with this formula. What I love about this tinted moisturizer are three things: 1) it gives a nice, natural glow (hence the name), 2) it has great coverage, and 3) it’s like magic. This adapts to your skin color! Downside? I don’t think this has any SPF. So, you still need a sunscreen. Disclaimer: I normally use this on days I’m not wearing any other makeup. So, I can’t speak to how makeup wears over it, etc.

Price: $40 and this is a top 2 tinted moisturizer for me.

June Haircare Favorites

I’ve only got one beauty essential when it comes to haircare for the month and it’s my Oribe Gold Lust Nourishing Hair Oil. This isn’t new to me (I’m on my second bottle), but I couldn’t find where I’d shared it here before. So, honestly this is WAY overdue. Oribe is one of my fav luxury haircare brands. Their products smell better than anything I’ve ever used before, and although they’re pricey – they work really well. This gives your hair the prettiest shine and protects from UV and heat. I use this two ways. First, I’ll put this on when my hair is damp as a heat protector and then blow dry. Or, I’ll use this on dry hair to fight frizz and add shine. Typically I’m using two pumps on my long hair. So, for short hair you could probably get away with just one.

Price: $56 and should last you the year – so cost per use is great!

Each month I carefully curate a selection of beauty items that I used and share my results! But, I don’t just share the winners. We all have unique skin. So, I think it’s important to share that some beauty products don’t always work for us and that’s okay.
