Baby Boy Nursery Reveal

It took us a little over a year, but Everett’s stars and moon theme nursery is finally done! What I love most about this space is how calming it is. The area where he plays has lots of bright, colorful toys. So, it was so important to me to keep this space as soothing as possible to help with waking up peacefully and winding down quietly at the end of each day. To settle on the theme, I scoured Pinterest for neutral baby bedroom ideas. Once we settled on the stars and moon theme, I created a mood board of different furniture and decor that I loved and wanted to use to fill the space. Some of it changed, but a lot is the same as how I originally envisioned it, including the round rug with star details! Most of the major purchases, like his crib (similar here), were made before he was born. But, it’s all the little details, like his framed art, accent pillows, mobile and more that brought it all together. We absolutely love it and hang out in here as a family all the time. I’m thrilled to share our baby boy nursery reveal to inspire you to create your own.

Baby Boy Nursery Reveal

Oh, baby! We just love how our gender neutral star and moon nursery came together. There are so many elements of a nursery to consider, from furniture and decor to rugs and the changing table. This space was an empty, blank canvas before we started this design. So, we started by finding the perfect paint color.

Our Nursery Paint Color

After several trips to Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paint stores, dozens of swatches and several small sample cans later, we settled on Accessible Beige (SW 7036) at 30% so that it wasn’t too dark. It’s a nice neutral color, perfect for a gender neutral nursery too. While I would have loved to put up wallpaper or create an accent wall, it wasn’t in the cards (at least not at this time) since we have texturized walls.

PRO TIP: it’s far easier to paint before anything is in the room. So, I highly recommend doing that first!

Baby Boy Nursery Furniture

Once you’ve picked your paint color and settled on a theme or vibe for the room, it’s time to move on to furniture. The crib is often a focal point in your nursery. Take time to find something you’ll love for several years. Our tufted crib is discontinued from Restoration Hardware Baby & Child collection. But, of anything in Everett’s room, it was the one item I knew I wanted. This one is very similar. Then, we have this simple star fitted crib sheet. There are lots of other options for simple baby boy nursery bedding on Amazon and Target too.

After the crib, the changing table or dresser is likely your next investment. There are so many options! Ours is similar to this grey wood dresser and matched the color of our crib. But, in hindsight my best advice is to not feel pressured to buy your furniture from the same retailer. I wish ours was wider and had another set of drawers to give us more storage space. Our Keekaroo Peanut changing pad sits atop our dresser. It can get crowded up there quickly with diapers, creams, and any other decor. So, another option is to get a separate changing table with all your supplies.

Nursery Rugs

Depending on the flooring in the nursery, a rug may or may not be necessary. Even though we have carpet (which I’m so thankful for), the round star rug makes the room feel complete! I also love to layer rugs. So, adding the sheepskin rug (which looks like clouds against the stars!) was an easy decision. It may not be practical longer term, but for now it’s fine.

Feeding Area and Cozy Corner

Whether you nurse or bottle feed, you’ll be spending lots of time feeding your baby. Having a cozy corner complete with a glider and some lighting is a necessity. You’ll spend countless hours in your glider, so spend time trying those and consider both you and your partner or spouses body for what will be most comfortable. We also added an ottoman, even though the glider rocks and has an automatic recline feature. Our first 5-6 months I fell asleep in our chair so many times I lost track. So, the recliner was a lifesaver but wasn’t originally a feature I thought we needed!

To keep the room dark for bedtime and naps, consider adding window treatments with blackout curtains. Ours are affordable and come in a ton of colors. Plus, the velvet detail adds a nice warm texture to the room. The floor lamp is a great find from Target. They have lots of lamps for a baby boy nursery.

Nursery Closet System

Aside from our fresh coat of paint, one of the areas we renovated is the nursery closet. It was an empty space with the standard white metal shelves. So, Matt found this closet organizer at The Home Depot that matched the nursery design and color scheme. He’s very handy! So, he was able to install it himself and it gives us much better use of the space with several drawers, four areas to hang clothes, a bunch of shelves and a place for Everett’s shoes. We use this moon basket (also have and love this one) to hide extra books and these cute bear baskets to store toys. These velvet hangers are from Amazon and they do a great job of holding the clothes in place with no slippage.

Star and Moon Nursery Wall Decor

While your furniture will fill the room, your wall decor will bring your space to life. I’m a longtime fan of Minted and they offer a huge variety of children’s art. We picked these two prints that matched the star and moon theme and then customized this one so that it matched the soft, neutral beige and brown tones in the room. We also got this print with ‘I love you to the moon and back’ since that’s something I say to him all the time. You can either get just the art prints or have them custom framed with Minted. Use code AMANDAART23 for 10% off art (some exclusions may apply).

wall decor and hanging decor

Once you’ve taken care of the major furniture items, you’ll want a play mat or activity gym for tummy time. Ours is from Pottery Barn Kids and is near the acrylic bookshelves and got tons of use for months.

Of course, no baby boy’s nursery would be complete without some stuffed animals! This teddy bear was gifted at my shower and he sits at the foot of Everett’s crib.

There are so many design options for your baby boy nursery. Another very cute (and popular) theme are hot air balloons. No matter what you choose, make sure the room feels warm and inviting. You and baby will be spending lots of time in there.
