Miami Staycation with Boulud Sud and Marriott Hotels

I totally take Miami for granted. Living in South Florida, we have such easy access to places like the Keys, Palm Beach, and other beautiful cities on the West Coast of Florida. Of course, Fort Lauderdale is pretty fab. But, it doesn’t have that multicultural feel that Miami does. So, I jumped at the chance when Carma Connected invited me to spend the weekend with a handful of fabulous food bloggers to enjoy both happy hour and brunch at Daniel Boulud’s restaurant inside the JW Marriott Marquis Miami, Boulud Sud.

By no means am I a foodie, but I know good food when I eat it! From the elevated ambiance to the expertly crafted cocktails and the delicious burrata salad, it was an incredible culinary experience. Now, I can’t stop telling my friends to plan their own staycation! Keep reading to get the details on how I got down to Miami, my room at the JW and everything we did in less than 24 hours!

My Stay at the JW Marriott Marquis Miami

One of the first things to consider when you’re planning a vacation or a long weekend in Miami is where to stay. Since Boulud Sud is in the JW Marriott Marquis Miami hotel, that made our decision easy. But, there were a ton of unexpected amenities that made the hotel a good choice. For example, they have a bowling alley inside! A few girls went bowling between check in and happy hour since we had some time. How fun!

Also, they’re a really clean property. That’s super important to me (and probably is if you have kids too!). Lastly, it’s in a central location in Miami. My room had a great view of the intercoastal and South Beach which was really pretty to wake up to. You can easily pop down to Brickell, over to Miami Beach or up to Wynwood (like we did).

Grab Dinner in Wynwood

Wynwood is arguably my favorite neighborhood in Miami. It’s a quick 10-minute cab ride from downtown and is the new hot spot for nightlife. It’s also home to a variety of great restaurants, like Bakan. Mexican food is LIFE and this place is so so good! Also, they specialize in Tequila and Mezcal if you’re into that (I’m a beer and wine kinda gal). And, oh my gosh is the food tasty. We shared a bunch of plates, including the Ceviche Bakan (loved) and the Huachinango Entero, which is swordfish with two different rubs on it. Then, for dessert we had the churros which were OUT OF THIS WORLD! I’d honestly come again just for those. Do yourself and make a reservation STAT.

Have Brunch at Boulud Sud

As if a delicious, multi-course meal for dinner the previous night wasn’t enough, then we brunched on Sunday! Boulud Sud lived up to the expectations, with an awesome menu and incredible service. You MUST get the ‘Cinco Jotas’ Iberico Ham to share for the table. It’s melt-in-your-mouth good. I had the eggs benedict for my main course, but if I went back I might get the Rigatoni All’Amatriciana. The red sauce was like it was straight out of an italian kitchen. I immediately told Matt about it when I got home. Date night in our future perhaps!? Of course, no brunch is complete without cocktails. I had the Frosé. Okay, I’m lying – I had two Frosé’s! Go big or go home!

The Brightline: an easy way to get to Miami

I almost forgot! One of the most fun parts of the weekend was getting to ride down to Miami on the Brightline trains. Honestly, the commute is what keeps Matt and I from going down to Miami more often. Now that we can pop on the train and relax on the ride (with cocktails and snacks in Select class), we’ll likely be taking a lot more day trips! Also, if you purchase Select class you get access to the lounge at the station in Miami before your ride.
