5 Social Distancing Workout Ideas

5 Social Distancing Workout Ideas

Getting into a routine in this era of #socialdistancing has been tough overall for me. Layer that with figuring out what my workout routine looks like these days and I’ve just been a mess. Admittedly, I let the first week go by without doing much at all (outside of my day job). It wasn’t until week two at home that I sort of slapped myself in the face and started figuring out my options. To my surprise, so many of my favorite workouts mobilized so quickly to create and offer on demand workouts from home or via Facebook live. Everyone’s days are looking a bit different, but below are my top 5 social distancing workout ideas for staying fit while we stay at home.

5 Social Distancing Workout Ideas

My Top 5 Social Distancing Workout Ideas

In a pre-quarantine time, I’m not sure I would have ever tried these at-home workouts. I say that candidly as someone who literally carried the P90X workouts around with her on a portable hard drive from business trip to business trip – never completing a single workout. But, I guess it’s like anything these days. We’re all trying new things! And, I’m honestly so glad I did.

These social distancing workout ideas will just become workout ideas – period – after this mess is over. There are plenty of times I can’t get to a class at a certain time. These apps and these options have shown me just how much more flexible my workout routine can be. And, I love it!

F45 Training On Demand

It’s no secret I’ve been loving F45 Training the last 6-9 months. So, it was a no brainer to try the On Demand Workouts the last two weeks and that’s why it’s at the top of my list. These workouts MAKE YOU SWEAT! I burn just as many calories as I do in class, without weights! That’s right. The in-app workouts use exclusively body weight for each exercise. The app does a demo of the move, has a timer and a faux trainer in the background hyping you up to get through your sets! I. AM. SOLD!

As far as selecting the workout you do – that’s easy. There is only one option each day. I find it helpful to put your phone in a tripod to watch the workout. I grabbed that affordable one on Amazon and it takes just seconds to set up.

Pure Barre On Demand

If you follow me on Instagram, you know you can regularly find me at the Barre. I’ve quoted this as the best workout for women for YEARS (going on 8 maybe!?) and I stand by that claim! I just started using the On Demand workouts in the app and I am SHOCKED to see so many workouts in there. Unlike F45 where the on demand workout changes by day, Pure Barre has a full library you can choose from. Pregnant?! No worries! They have options for you too.

Go For Outdoor Walks or Run in Your Neighborhood

When I said I “did nothing” the first week, I guess that was only partially true. Amidst all the chaos going on in the world, Matt asked me to start taking walks with him around the lake in our neighborhood (it’s 2.5-3.5 miles depending on the route). Even a leisurely walk got my heart pumping and helped me meet my calorie goals for the day.

I ran once or twice as well which also helped with the stress of any uncertainty I felt. And, I immediately felt better! Getting out of the house is so important to feel some sense of normalcy.

Of course, be safe! If you go at night, be sure to use a safety light like this one I run with.

Kathleen Post – KPFit Workouts + Mark Morgan Fitness

You guysss, the proof is in the pudding! I met Kathleen a few years ago at New York Fashion Week and she has gotten in the absolute best shape. She teamed up with her trainer and now offers a series of at-home workouts you can do with just a few items like resistance bands and small dumbbells. I see people rave about them and she posts on Instagram Stories all the time of the workouts she’s doing which look so challenging. Go check it out!

Nike App

In light of our #socialdistancing requirements, Nike announced that they’ve made their NTC Premium service available for free. This includes more than 185 streaming workouts, plus their Nike Run app (which I’ve used for years). NTC Premium offers a pretty big range of workouts, from yoga to full workouts (bodyweight only or equipment-based if you prefer). I haven’t tried the latter, so I can’t speak directly to them. But, they have a 4.8 rating in the App store from 174K reviews. So, it sounds pretty great!

There are lots of other great options for social distancing workout ideas (i.e. my yoga studio has live or streaming workouts). But, these I’ve included here are my top recommendations as of now. If you have any questions, just leave a comment below!
