NYFW Day 1 – White Shirt Dress

A Glam Lifestyle bloggers wears Carolina Constas Lena white shirt dress with MGemi Pendolo black boots and Club Monaco coat and Club Monaco Juki white fringed scarf to show her NYFW street style at NYFW Spring 2017 showsIt’s somewhat surreal to think that I’ve just wrapped another season at NYFW. This time around, I had my feet underneath me a bit more and started planning the trip about a month in advance. Last time, I decided to go about a week beforehand and that just wasn’t enough time to plan my outfits and score invites to shows. This Carolina Constas white shirt dress (also love this style) was probably my favorite look of the week. The high low hemline and wrap style in the front are a few unique details that make this not just your average shirt dress. Keep reading to hear how I styled it during the snowstorm that came through NYC while we were in town.

How to Pack for NYFW

Prepping outfits for fashion week in February was far different than in September (when it was warm but girls were still rockin’ their OTK’s!). It was in the 20’s and 30’s which is freeeezing for this South Florida girl. The key to staying warm was layering with heavy coats and cute winter accessories. This season I was invited to about 20 shows and I learned quickly that any more than 3 a day is just nuts. I haven’t quite figured out yet how girls change between shows. That would be far too many looks for me to manage. Plus, when I have an outfit that I love I want to wear it all day! With all that said, below are a few quick tips for packing for NYFW:

  1. Start putting looks together about a month in advance. I ordered (then reordered, and then ordered again) from Shopbop and Revolve. You have to give yourself time or you’ll end up rushing.
  2. Bring a mix of outerwear. I brought a long grey coat and a tweed cream colored coat – both from Club Monaco. For February, faux fur is a must-have in your bag as well.
  3. Know that it’s okay to wear sneakers. Next time, I’ll bring at least one pair of kicks for when stiletto’s and booties just aren’t going to work in the snow.

Carolina Constas White Shirt Dress for NYFW

In order to make packing easier I kept to a color palette of white, grey, black and cream (for the most part). This simple, but stunning, white shirt dress by Carolina Constas was a splurge (similar here), but a standout piece. I knew I could get a lot of wear out of it in the future. To try not to freeze, I wore it with knee high boots by MGemi and a thick, fringed scarf. My grey coat (also love this one) was draped over my shoulders the entire day. As long as you don’t stay outside too long, you’re okay with just 2-3 layers.

These gold earrings by Kenneth Jay Lane got a ton of compliments (and are under $40!). You’ll see them again in the very near future!

What did you think of my first look for NYFW? Being from the South, I’d love to hear how you dress in the Winter and still stay stylish. Leave a comment below!
